Why we love it

A rambling place where you can idle on the croquet lawn, swim in the pool and walk the dog along the Dart or the many nearby beaches

What you'll love

Dogs will love

  • Walks to secret beaches with plenty of rockpools
  • Two miles of green lanes from the doorstep
  • Splashing along the banks of the river Dart and exploring the Dart Valley Trail

Humans will love

  • Using the covered pool, playing tennis and croquet
  • Wildlife spotting from the balcony
  • Relaxing in the bright, peaceful space

The place

Barberry Brook is one of six places to stay at Fingals, a curious collection of accommodation with a sociable feel, created with character and flair by owners Richard and Sheila. It’s a brilliant place for dogs (of course!) with so much to do in the area, tennis balls scattered round the grounds, a muddy paw hose and beds and towels on hand if you need them. Humans will love the covered pool, sauna, croquet lawn and tennis court – and you’ll probably bump into other guests as you wander around. If you prefer a bit of peace and quiet, then set yourself up on the balcony with a book and a glass of something and keep an eye out for otters drifting by in the stream below. You’ll have no trouble finding places to walk the dog either, with miles of trails along the Dart and a host of beaches that Richard and Sheila like to keep a secret from everyone but their guests.
