The place
Sitting in a row of houses on the Norfolk Coast, 4 Coastguard cottage is a stone’s throw from the beach – every dog’s dream. Unassuming on the outside, you’ll discover beautifully decorated and snug interiors on the inside. It's off grid here, so you might not have wifi, but chances are you won’t miss it. With some phone signal available, you can always check your messages, but chances are you’ll be focusing too much on the peacefulness of a digital detox, exploring market towns, taking long walks on the beach, or a well-deserved soak in the bathtub. The lounge is the perfect spot to stretch out with a book and relax, especially as night draws in, the sun sets over the sea and you settle in by the fire.

You should know
The communal back garden is used by neighbour’s dogs so please use the enclosed front garden only
The cottage's electricity is from solar panels and wind turbine, enough to power the fridge, lights and your devices (but not things like hairdryers)
As there's no central heating, you'll be provided with wood for the wood burners and electric blankets but you may also want to bring cosy layers and slippers during the winters months
Cooking essentials like salt, pepper and oil aren't provided so if you're planning on cooking, remember to bring some along
There's no wifi or TV so it's a good excuse to completely switch off (although there is some phone signal here if needed!)
You’re right inside The Norfolk Coast AONB here, so you're spoilt for choice with coastal walks. You’ll find the Scolt Head Island National Nature Reserve to your west, which can be accessed by walking when there’s low tide – or take a ferry to the island from the quay at Burnham Overy Staithe
Beaches are in abundance here (believe it or not), so try Wells-next-the-Sea, for a wide-open expanse of golden sand and colourful little beach huts, or Holkham Beach for another gorgeous expanse, this time backed with dunes. Be sure to check seasonal dog restrictions, and a certain times of year, keep an eye out for fenced-off areas protecting wildlife
Spend an afternoon in Holt perusing the town, shopping, checking out art galleries or bespoke clothing brands. There are plenty of places to grab some food, and of course, fish and chips are on offer – but there are also several tearooms, pubs and coffee shops. If you’re looking for something special to bring back to the cottage, pop into Cross Street Union for a coffee, and pick up some natural wine for the evening
With 100 acres of mixed woodland open all year, Holt Country Park is a gorgeous place for a walk – where you’ll share the canopy with many varieties of butterflies. There are plenty of different waymarked trails to discover, as well as sculptures and carvings along the way
If you’re missing the metropolitan life, then Norwich is just an hour’s drive away. There are cobbled streets, markets, shopping at bespoke and high street brands, and best of all, plenty of places to eat and grab coffee. It’s well worth popping into the city to see what’s on offer
There are quite a few different pubs nearby to grab a bite to eat. The Wiveton Bell near Weybourne is a great choice and even has a special dog menu! The Crown Pub in Sheringham is also a good spot to visit as they love a visiting dog – treating them, in their own words, as a ‘VIP’.

Booking guide
Every booking at Paws & Stay is about the dog. You will see how many dogs are allowed at a place on their page and in search results and then you can add them during the booking process. While your dogs are more than welcome, of course, our owners hope you’ll still make sure your dogs are well behaved. There may occasionally be rooms (and furniture) that are off limits to dogs, but not to an extent that will impact your stay. If they can’t be in the room with you, they’ll have a lovely, cosy spot of their own. You can see any restrictions in the 'For the Dog' section of a place.
How to book
All you need to do is select an available check-in date, underlined in gold on the calendar, and see what options appear for your stay. If the stay is within ten weeks of the date on which you’re booking, you’ll need to pay the full cost of the stay. If it’s further than ten weeks away, you’ll have the option of paying a 25% deposit.
When you book, you’ll be able to use the email address you supply to log in and make any further payments whenever you like. We will notify you when your balance is due and be in touch if it goes unpaid past that date.
If you have any questions about a place, you can email us on bookings@pawsandstay.co.uk. Call us during office hours (Monday to Friday, except Bank Holidays, 0900 to 1800) if you have any problems with booking and we can usually sort things out over the phone.
Paying your balance
If you paid a deposit when you booked, we’ll let you know when your balance is due, but you can log in to your account, which is automatically created when you book, to pay it at any time. You can also log in and pay off a little of your balance at a time.
Deposits and balance payments
If your booking is made more than ten weeks in advance of your arrival date, you’ll have the option to pay a 25% deposit. The full balance will then be taken from the same card you pay with. You’ll be able to pay the balance on a different card at any time by giving us a call. If your balance payment fails, don’t worry. Your booking will not be cancelled but we will need to get in touch with you within a week to secure the balance payment.
Terms & conditions
We’ll always try and find a solution that works for you and our owners if there’s any issue with your booking, but you can read our full [Ts&Cs](https://www.pawsandstay.co.uk/terms-and-conditions/) here.
