The place
If you and the dog are looking for a spot to stretch out and relax – this is a perfect place to do it. At just a 15-minute drive from the coast, you’ve got the option to grab the keys and a lead and spend the morning or afternoon taking ear-flapping strolls on the beach. Or, if you’re in the mood to explore woods or big open spaces, you’ve got miles of fields and the East Devon National Landscape just north of your cottage. When you’re not out and about, you’ve got a cottage with plentiful space for two (and your four-legged friend of course). The kitchen is modern and spacious, the rooms light and airy, and the lounge is ideal to sit and plan the day ahead or retire from it! If going out seems like too much effort, just kick back in the loungers outside, or have a drink at the al fresco table, and watch the dog enjoy a trot around the enclosed garden.
In the neighbourhood
- Walk from the door: From the door, turn right and take the first left turn, follow the stream, walk over the stone bridge, and you'll start to climb Southleigh Hill. Follow the public footpath sign and walk up the hillside through the woodland. At the end you’ll come to a track, turn right and continue to the end, where you'll cross a lane and see a public bridleway opposite. Walk to the end and turn left onto the lane keeping the open fields to your left. Continue on the lane until you reach T junction and turn right.
- The Masons Arms, 12-minute drive: A 14th-Century inn, with impeccable style, low timber beams and a roaring fire – the food’s good, the drinks wide ranging, and the dogs are welcome.
- Branscombe Beach, 15-minute drive: Welcoming dogs all year round (with a couple of light restrictions), you can head to Branscombe beach for a trot across the shingle, and a suspicious chomp at the incoming waves.
- Holyford Woods Nature Reserve, 9-minute drive: Though dogs need to be kept on a leash, you might enjoy a stroll through the woodland discovering all the sights and smells you both enjoy (like the wild garlic carpet, at the right time of year).
