The place

With neutral-coloured walls, period features popping up on the fringes, Arty Cottage is punctuated with colour everywhere – artworks, reclaimed pieces and plants create a warm, stylish spot to stay. It’s a perfect backdrop to exploring this stretch of the Welsh coast. If you’ve got a dog with you that’s keen to explore for all the sights and smells of the country and coast, there are walks straight from the door, and beaches in easy reach. Once you’ve burned off some mad dashes, the hound will be ready to head into St Dogmaels or Cardigan to explore alongside you as you find dog-friendly spots to grab a coffee or a bite to eat. Once the day’s over, it’s back to the cottage for a dip in the bath, followed by drinks on the balcony!

In the neighbourhood

  • Walk from the door: Turn right out of front path and go down the hill, follow lane down towards centre of St Dogmaels. Take left turn towards the Abbey where dogs can run around the grassed area. Visit the Abbey Visitors Centre (dog friendly) and check out the Flour Mill. Carry on into the village, check out the Art Gallery as you walk back up the hill and the wonderful views from the cottage lane.
  • Poppit Sands, 7 minutes’ drive: Whilst there are some seasonal restrictions on dogs here, it’s a great spot to visit with the hound. A sandy beach, backed with dunes, there’s plenty to explore, and dash about on!
  • Pizza Tipi, 6 minutes’ drive: Stonebaked pizzas, with a view of the river – what more could you ask for? Have your four-legged friend by your feet as you kick back, anjoy a drink and wait to be served a steaming pizza.
  • Crwst, 30-minutes’ walk: Award-winning produce, a café to pick up your latte-art topped coffee, baked goods and brunch – all in one place. Though the dog might not appreciate the aesthetic, they’ll still enjoyed being fussed over.
