The place

There’s almost too much to love at Blue Cottage, and you’ll ache from smiling as you discover one thoughtful touch after another. There’s the hamper full of everything from bread and orange juice to Fyne Ales and wine, the Tunnock’s Eat Me jar and the “help yourself” bar stocked with whisky, Isle of Mull gin and port. Dogs are not forgotten, with some goodies to discover in the pantry. Then there’s the beautiful space itself, the curated bookshelves and the Fun Shed with bikes and even a kayak if your dog has good sea legs. This is all before you’ve even got your bearings and discovered the lochside walks in woodland bursting with wildlife, the dog-friendly warmth of the Ardbrecknish House Hotel and boat trips out to tiny island cafes that you never would have found on your own. It’s all part of Jenny and Ewan’s heartfelt drive to exceed expectations and, even when you know all of the above, they still will.

A ‘shop’ for guests, mainly from local suppliers and Loch Fyne Oyster Bar Deli. Guests can an indication of their budget and what they prefer and items will be bought and delivered

You should know

The Blue Cottage isn’t fenced in and a quiet B road runs down the lochside behind the cottage, so take care when out and about
Please use the blankets provided (not the cashmere ones!) if your dog wants to join you on the sofa or bed

From Oban you can jump onto a boat to Mull for the day - but even better is the wee boat that takes you over to the island of Kerrera, which has a lovely 2-mile walk to a café.
For a lovely walk head over to Dalavich Woods and Angel Falls on the other side the loch
The Ardbrecknish House Hotel is only a minute’s walk down the road. It serves great pub classics (takeaway at the moment), has a lovely wee bar open until around half nine and is very dog friendly
For more fancy dining, Samphire, the seafood restaurant in Inverary is worth a look and the George Hotel is an institution for its great food and beer garden. There’s also the award-winning Inver, about an hour’s drive north in Strachur
A great day trip is to head for Oban (about 45 minutes away), stopping at the seafront oyster huts there for a snack, then push on to Glen Coe for a walk. Bring carrots to feed the friendly deer (and a lead if you’ve got a chaser) and be ready to recognise the spot from, among others, The Holy Grail, The 39 Steps, Harry Potter and Skyfall
There’s a lovely drive down the lochside to Ford and then onto Kilmartin Glen, which is fascinating if you’re into archaeology. Informative and scenic guided walks are available
