Why we love it

Just outside Cheltenham in the rolling green fields to the south, Cheltenham View Lodge is the perfect place to explore the city or the Cotswolds

What you'll love

Dogs will love

  • Sunbathing on the patio with you
  • Getting a paw wash with the outside tap
  • Finding their dog items (including a few treats) on arrival

Humans will love

  • Cooking up some treats for two and four-legged guests on the BBQ
  • Exploring the patio or the path through the forested area
  • Ordering extras, like a massage therapist or wood for the firepit

The place

The clue’s partly in the name at Cheltenham View Lodge. The vista from the large deck is magnificent, but you’re not looking at town, but rather at endless fields, which don’t fall from view for a second, as you stroll out through the French doors from the bedroom. You’ll be torn as to where to spend your time. With Cheltenham just down the road, you could be touring the Georgian streets for retail therapy as easily as you could be exploring the Cotswolds. Or simply settling down at the al fresco table with lunch, admiring the view with a glass of something chilled. Cheltenham View Lodge is equipped with all the standards you’d hope for, but the real magic is the surrounding green fields to admire and wander with your hound.

In the neighbourhood

  • Cheltenham is just a 12-minute drive away, with all its shopping, theatre, cinemas, restaurants, and of course – the racecourse. Spend the day out with your hound, exploring the streets lined with grand Georgian buildings. There are a number of places to pop into that are dog-friendly, but one to note is No. 3 – which has its own dog menu!
  • It's just a 14-minute drive to Dunkerton’s Cider and Farm shop, with organic cider made on site, as well as a deli selling organic British charcuterie, olives, and antipasti, and even a selection of organic cheeses. Dogs are very welcome, but have to stay outside – you can imagine their concerns about temptation!
  • The Frogmill, a charming Cotswold-style pub, welcomes dogs and is a short 10–12-minute drive. With the lovely garden, it's perfect for enjoying summer vibes. Alternatively, The Wheatsheaf, located on the Old Bath Road, is another local pub where well-behaved dogs are welcome. It's around a 30-minute walk each way, with decent food and a cosy atmosphere
  • Brew and Bake is an excellent choice for breakfast, just a 5-minute drive away and dogs on leads are welcome. Another outstanding option is Baker & Graze, offering delectable cakes and more, just a 6-minute drive from the Lodge. Or if you’re feeling like a stretch of the legs (or tiring out a bounding puppy) – it’s just a 40-minute walk
  • Explore the beautiful surroundings with these walks from the front door. Discover Devils Chimney, a nearby location with stunning views. Another option is Crickley Hill, a 5-minute drive away, with a car park and incredible panoramic vistas. For a longer loop, head towards Cowley and the Green Dragon Pub, enjoying fields and the charm of Cowley village along the way. It’s roughly a 2.5-hour walk, and the pub allows dogs on leads
  • Explore the picturesque Leckhampton Hill Nature Reserve, just a short distance from the Lodge. This dog-friendly area offers a variety of walking trails with stunning views over Cheltenham and beyond. Enjoy a leisurely stroll or a more challenging hike, while immersing yourself in the natural beauty of the Cotswolds. Remember to keep your hound on a lead and respect the local wildlife and conservation efforts.
