    Why we love it

The perfect place for groups to explore Devon’s incredible northern coastline – sit fireside, take dips in the bath or the hot tub, and feel those shoulders drop

    What you'll love

    Dogs will love

    • Finding the masses of dog items left for them
    • Being mostly well behaved while you’re cooking on the BBQ
    • Going tongue-flapping speeds in the dog walk area

    Humans will love

    • Sitting at the regal dining table for dinner
    • Battling it out in the games room for the title of games master
    • Relaxing in the hot tub as the sun goes down

    The place

Let’s say you need to accommodate a huge getaway. Perhaps it’s the extended family, or with family friends, or even just a group of friends – whether you were thinking North Devon or not, this is the perfect spot. Accommodating 15, with room for a couple more, Coulscott House is the most stylish and effortlessly regal place you could stay. It's made up of a combination of Georgian House and Old Farmhouse. And as for how you’ll move from building to building – there’s a secret internal door disguised as a bookcase (you can assure the dog they won’t have to stand on two legs, and solve crimes). If you’ve booked to retreat, rest and recuperate, take long baths, bubbly hot tub dips or even swims in the indoor pool. You could even lose an afternoon to the games in the garden room, spend hours wandering the many acres to explore, or simply enjoy a cosy night reading by the fire.

    In the neighbourhood

    • Take the 40-minute drive down to the Braunton Burrows and Crow Point walk. The walk will take you and your dog on a tour of the dunes and slacks, where you’ll spot wetland creatures and 470 species of rare plants – some so rare they’re only found in one other place in England!
    • If you’ve got the car, you could head over to Bull Point Lighthouse and take on the walk to Morte point to the southwest. Known locally as the ‘Seals and Smugglers’ route, we recommend bringing some binoculars, as you might well spot Atlantic seals or porpoises if you’re lucky! Depending on the time of year, the gorse and heather provide the perfect breeding ground for butterflies and moths, as well as birds like kittwakes and terns
    • It’s only a 35-minute drive to Baggy Point from Braunton, so pop over with the hound to check out the SSSI status viewpoint. It overlooks Croyde beach, one of North Devon’s best surfing spots, and you might spot climbers scaling the cliffs or coasteerers… coasteering. This spot’s maintained by The National Trust and is three-paw rated for dogs! You’ll access this point from The South West Coastal Path, and on the way you might encounter livestock, so just be sure to lead up where appropriate
    • You’re on the edge of Exmoor National Park, and all that’s hidden away there. It might be coastal strolls, beach visits, market towns, pretty fishing villages or something as simple as a walk across the moors. If your hound is a fan of the forest, they might well enjoy a trip round the Dunkery & Horner Wood National Nature Reserve, which can be found at the heart of the Exmoor National Park
    • You don’t need to go that far to find some dog friendly activities here – it could be as simple as a four-minute drive, or a twenty-minute walk to the beach at Combe Martin. But if you’re in the mood for a beach tour, there’s also Putsborough, which is a half hour drive, and Woolacombe at twenty minutes (though there are some seasonal dog restrictions, so do check)
    • If you’re in the mood for a bite to eat or a coffee, there are plenty of options! Nearby, there’s the Focsle Inn or the Pack o’ Cards to grab a bite to eat with your dog. A little further afield, there’s Woolacombe, Barnstaple and Braunton – all with plenty of dog friendly options available, from coffee shops to beachside huts and Inns and pubs, this stretch of Devon is packed full of places to dine with a hound.
