    The place

    A suitably strapping name for a handsome wagon – Duke’s sat in the stunning grounds of the Spring Park Estate. With its own private garden to itself, you’ll look out on wildflower meadow from your stylishly outfitted ex-showman’s wagon and wonder if you really want to explore the area at all. Have an afternoon tea by the wagon’s steps, as your dog makes happy laps around the bushes and trees, and consider making dinner – maybe after you just rest your eyes for a moment. Night-time here is a treat, and if you’re not indoors enjoying the wood burner on colder nights, you’ll be outside showing the firepit your palms or star-counting in the warm confines of the wood-fired hot tub.

    You should know

    • The garden is partially enclosed by shrubs and trees but not fenced, so not guaranteed escape proof
    • The owner has two large dogs, but it’s unlikely you’ll be lucky enough to meet them!
    • There are seven other spaces onsite, so you might meet your neighbours, but you’ve your own little space to retreat into for private time

    In the neighbourhood

    • If you’re in the mood for a bite to eat, or maybe a glass of something fireside, pop into The Springer Spaniel pub just under a mile down the road. It’s dog friendly, with all the pub classics you’d hope to see on the menu. If you’re lucky – you might also get to meet Ernie, the pub dog – with the title of ‘cuddle-master’. A little further away, there’s The Manor at Rilla Mill, The Crows Nest – both well worth a visit, and both dog friendly
    • Looking to enjoy cooking something special? If you’re wanting to sample the local produce, there’s a few places to stock up on supplies nearby. The nearest is three miles away in Stoke Climsland, where you can pick up produce at the local Post Office, but there’s also several larger supermarkets at Launceston five miles away. Otherwise, there’s fresh vegetables down the road on sale at Tamar Organics, and farm shops dotted about for local produce
    • If you want to take the dog on a tour of the local towns, in search of new and adventurous sniffs, there’s several in easy reach. Head to Tavistock, a half hour away, for the famous Pannier Market which has been running for 900 years. Fowey is an hour away, but worth the journey – famous for its mussels and seafood. Looe and Tintagel are similar distances, in opposite directions, giving somewhere to visit within 40m on either side of the coast for a coastal walk and a pint with a great view
    • There’s so much to do to be active nearby. If you’re bringing the bike to explore tracks – there’s The Camel Trail nearby to run the length of. If hikes are more your game (and the dog’s in the mood for an adventure), take to Dartmoor or Bodmin Moor, half an hour away in opposite directions. Surfers will love how close they are to either coast, but even those not looking for a wave to ride will enjoy letting the hound off the lead for some fresh sea air
    • There’s a good chance you’re looking for a walk to tire out your four-legged friend, and you’re in luck! There’s almost too many to mention. For some lovely wooded walks, take a quick drive to Cardinham Woods or Golitha Falls for some woodland strolls. For waterside romps, there’s Roadford, Siblyback or Burrator Reservoir to wander for an afternoon. There are incredible walks everywhere nearby, whether famed or not, and it’s well worth exploring the Tamar Valley AONB, Bodmin Moor or Dartmoor – all within half an hour’s drive
    • Everyone loves a trip to a National Trust estate, and you’re in luck – they’re dotted about all around this area. There’s Lanhydrock country house, where you’re welcome to bring your dog to the café or Stables Tea Rooms, Cotehele Tudor mansion – with its 1,300 acres of woodland and fields. At Buckland Abbey, there’s colour coded walks for easier and harder strolls through the grounds and at St Nectan’s Glen there’s a waterfall walk with a café to admire, and fuel up at, with your dog.
