Why we love it
Surrounded by miles of countryside, with mountains in the distance, and the sea an easy drive away, this spot’s perfect for adventures
What you'll love
Dogs will love
- Rolling about on the grass in the enclosed garden
- Sniffing out the treats left for them
- Asking for a second dinner at the al fresco table
Humans will love
- Heading into Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park for adventures
- Exploring Criccieth with the dog
- Taking a nap by the fire
The place
It doesn’t get much more quintessentially Welsh than a whitewashed cottage with exposed brick, and a slate roof – and Garth Yr Hebog has all those boxes ticked. If you’re looking for a spot to enjoy the miles of open countryside, a national park on your doorstep, and coastal walks an easy drive away, this is the spot for you. Daytimes might be as easy as going in search of (arguably) the best ice cream down in Cricieth, followed by the sea with an eager dog flapping their ears in the wind – or of course, taking on some more serious walks and hikes at Eryri, which is just a 20-minute or so drive from the cottage. If you’re taking a lazy day with the hound however, the two of you might prefer to enjoy lolling about in the garden in the sunshine, taking short walks round the area, or when everyone’s fed, a quick nap by a roaring fire.
In the neighbourhood
- Walk from the door: Dylan’s Criccieth, 6-minute drive: Dylan’s is a famed spot to eat in North Wales, and this spot’s one of four to dine at. With local ingredients from homegrown suppliers, the food’s not something to miss. And, you can bring along the hound.
- Harlech Beach, 24-minute drive: There are a few closer beaches, but with limited restrictions, sand dunes, a nature reserve and SSSI – it’s one not to miss. Head over to see one of the cleanest beaches in Snowdonia.
- Prince of Wales Pub, 6-minute drive: Exactly the kind of low-beamed, tankard from the ceiling. Folk band playing pub you’d want for a hearty pint and a good time. Welcomes dogs, and people.
