The place
Sometimes one of the best treats we can have, is staying somewhere suitably regal – and the Georgian House delivers just that. Spend a few days padding around in luxury, enjoying the stunning interiors, lounging around in the spacious living room – or competing for the right not to wash up in the garden room, with table tennis, table football or darts. There are plenty of places to kick back here, by the roaring fire, the sofa in the garden room, the onsite indoor pool or even the shared games room – but if you’re hoping to enjoy something a little more refined, try dinner in the lavish dining room. Here you’ll dine like royalty, complete with a mischievous four-legged prince or princess under the table. It’s going to be hard to escape the pull of everything at your place, but nearby, there’s plenty to do and see, and you still get to head back and retire to the roll top bath at day’s end.
In the neighbourhood
- Favourite Walk Nearby (10 min drive): Enjoy a scenic walk through ancient woodland in the Heddon Valley, leading to the sea between some of England’s highest cliffs. A designated Site of Special Scientific Interest, the valley is rich in wildlife, including otters and the rare high brown fritillary butterfly. Don’t miss the restored 19th-century lime kiln on the beach
- Bull Point Lighthouse, 35-minute drive: take on the walk to Morte point to the southwest. Known locally as the ‘Seals and Smugglers’ route, we recommend bringing some binoculars, as you might well spot Atlantic seals or porpoises if you’re lucky!
- Baggy Point, 35-minute drive: Overlooking Croyde beach, and one of North Devon’s best surfing spots, you might spot climbers scaling the cliffs or coasteerers… coasteering. This spot’s maintained by The National Trust and is three paw rated for dogs!
- Dunkery & Horner Wood, 40-minute drive: Take the dogs for a trip around the woods, searching for smells and burning off that excess energy. Just be sure to lead up where necessary.
