Why we love it

Bursting with features to make you and your dog feel at home, there’s plenty to do nearby, if you can bear to leave

What you'll love

Dogs will love

  • The entire cupboard dedicated to them by the front door, filled with towels, coats, and spare leads
  • Being spoilt with treats left for them, and dog shampoo for post-walk preening
  • The whole mess of walks available, with several dog friendly-beaches nearby

Humans will love

  • Being a stone’s throw from the café, pub and watersports centre on the lake
  • Being just a short drive away from either coast
  • Spending time in the picturesque garden with summerhouse

The place

Little Acre looks like a French Bastide, with its stone walling and vines that crawl the spaces between the windows. Wicker chairs adorn the space either side of the front door, for afternoon cups of tea and tipples. To one side, there’s an idyllic English garden, with all manner of plants and trees ringing an enclosed garden your dog will zoom about in. On the other side, a shaded secret garden opens up to another field where your dog can run free. In the kitchen, you’ll find an Aga – where you’ll cook dinner whilst your dog lies awkwardly in front of it. If it’s good weather, make use of the BBQ out back, and grill up a storm whilst your partner or kids pretend to be too busy in the summerhouse. If there’s a downpour, pop into to the library room off the lounge and check out the walking maps and National Trust brochures, or pick one of the many books to lose yourself in as you shimmy into the leather sofa, and listen to log burner crackle.

In the neighbourhood

  • Stithians Lake is one to visit. A quick 20-minute walk, and you’re not only on the bank of a beautiful body of water, but at the Stithians Lake Watersports Centre, where you can paddleboard, kayak, canoe, sail, windsurf and go trout fishing. Even better, there’s a dog-friendly café on site called Wild Vibes, with talented baristas and an incredible menu to suit all. If you’re feeling less active, stop off at The Golden Lion Pub, dog friendly with lakeside views, obviously
  • Just ten-minutes down the road by car, there’s the Nine Maidens Stone Circles, which confusingly have 16 stones, set back by the road and just a few parking spaces nearby. Make it the starting point or the end point for a stroll around the fields with your four-legged friend and get a stretch in too!
  • Just under nine miles away, is the town of Falmouth – cobbled streets lined with quirky vintage shops and boutiques, independent micro-breweries, cafés aplenty, with an ever-changing vibe that caters both to the youth that pour into the town to attend the arts university there, and the existing population. As a coastal town, it’s also unsurprising to learn that there’s two large water sports centres with a variety of the usual sports on offer.
  • Just eight miles in the opposite direction sits the town of Portreath, where there’s surf at Portreath Beach, with shops near by to rent or buy kit, rock pools to dip into and explore – dogs are welcome from September to the end of June.
  • To the east, there’s Trelissick Gardens, where you can go to explore the 300 acres, finding flower gardens with magnolias, daffodils and rhododendrons in season, and views of the River Fal running alongside. You can peruse the woodland and countryside for hours with your tiny companion and tucker them out for the day.
  • The cycle trails nearby are fantastic, so guests are encouraged to bring their mountain bikes
