The place
There are 320 acres of farmland to explore, forest in almost every direction to wander and you can even head up the road to the Wash Pool in Irfon, to wild swim side by side with the hound. This part of rural Wales is perfect for exploring, with small villages, market towns and tiny pubs dotted everywhere. Its relatively central location means you’re only around an hour to the sea, or an hour to The Black Mountains – if adventures with the dog further afield are in order. But, at a space like this, the real treasure is staying put. Short walks, lazy afternoons in the hammock on the deck, a quick jaunt around the ancient orchard or a splash in the River Irfon with the dog. Evenings will look like cooking up the bounty of the local farms, chats on comfy sofas by the fire with the dog, or the same, outdoors by the firepit. And no matter what, a dip in the freestanding bath.
In the neighbourhood
- Walk from the door: If you cross the road at the Doelcoed B-road through the car park, you can follow the River Irfon across a bridge, through a hamlet, and pick up the national trail with a hard left. This will take you through woodland on an incline, and then back down again towards the river, then towards Llanwrtyd Wells. Turn left over the first bridge, left again on the other side back on Dolecoed Road and back to Lofftwen
- The Neuadd, 15-minute walk: Take the short wander into the town to The Neuadd for some seasonal dishes in a classic pub style. More importantly, some beer fresh from the brewery, right on site
- The Bear, 21-minute drive: Take the quick drive down to Llandovery, and head to The Bear (you can’t miss the orange building), and grab a bite to eat before exploring the town and heading to the castle
- Crychan Forest, 19-minute drive: You’ve got a 20km circular forest walk on offer just down the road. Take the dog for a quick whip around the woods to work out some energy, before heading home to kick back.
