The place
At Oyster Cottage, you’ll find yourself lost in the beautifully crafted aesthetic. The inside is a fresh, airy space with an open plan lounge/dining area to swan around in as you serve incredible seafood you’ve picked up that day or rest your (two and four) feet in front of the fire. The modern galley kitchen is a gorgeous spot to cook in but if the weather’s fine, you’ll be outside at the BBQ, cooking in the sunshine and enjoying drinks at the outdoor bar. From this spot in the centre of Whitstable, you’ve got the whole town to explore, with plenty of beach to enjoy with the dog. Windswept walks with the hound are an easy stroll away, but if you’d prefer to explore, there’s plenty to find within an easy drive – country parks, nature reserves and the Isle of Sheppey right round the corner.
In the neighbourhood
- Walk from the door: Turn right out of the cottage and walk to the end of the road. Harbour Street Tapas will be on your right. Cross the road and continue through the alleyway directly opposite (just by the sweetshop on the left) You'll come out by the Gelateria. You'll see the beach access right in front of you. Once on the beach. Turn left and walk!
- Blean Woods, 20-minute drive: Dogs are welcome to join you on the white waymarked trail at Blean Woods, where you can both enjoy the sights (and smells) of the forest – as well as spotting the wildlife
- Farm & Harper, 5-minute walk: Head to Farm & Harper for all-day dining, whether it’s a breakfast to load up for the day, or a meal to finish off some windswept walks, it’s the perfect spot to head with the hound
- Canterbury, 24-minutes’ drive: Head to Canterbury to check out the ancient city’s delights. There’s plenty of shopping along cobbled streets, cafés and pubs in droves – and more than enough to keep the dog entertained for the day.
