The place
Looking out to a meadow from one side of a ravine and treetops on the other, Sheary Meadow is an incredible space for two to bring the dog and let loose for a few days. Waking up to the sun peering over this little valley, you can let the dog out and enjoy a cup of coffee with the sunrise and swooping buzzards. You can take it easy all day, just stretching your, and your dog’s legs on local trails or gallops about the large outdoor space. The coast is just four miles away, however, if you fancy the sea air or a little swim if your dog’s the salty kind. Although you won’t want to stray too far, as when the sun begins to go down, you can grab a drink, perch on a lounger and watch the amber light fade.

You should know
The owners have two friendly border collies, Alfie and Bertie, who may come to say hi!
The owners also have two horses, Mr Pickles and Harley, as well as sheep – so when you walk through the sheep field, keep your four-legged friends on a lead until you are through your hut gateway
Please keep dogs off the bed (they’ll find plenty of other cosy spots to settle in)
Book both Cleave Meadow and Sheary Meadow together for groups of 4!
1.5 miles away, the local pub, The Pyne Arms, is a great spot for dining. With multiple awards for its cuisine, it serves locally sourced food that varies from fine dining to pub grub but is always high quality. Four-legged friends are welcome at the bar or outside. You’ve also the option to take an 11-minute drive to The Muddiford Inn, where Chef Phil uses his experience working in Michelin-starred restaurants to craft yet more locally sourced food that’s wowed national papers. Dogs are welcomed in the bar
You’re not far from Ilfracombe here, and all it has to offer. You could pop out for a beach visit, either strolling Ilfracombe Beach or Wildersmouth Beach with your dog, taking coastal strolls or walking the harbour. In the town itself, there are several places to eat out with a pup, including The Olde Thatched Inn and The Hele Bay Pub – both welcome dogs on leads
It’s well worth heading out to Woolacombe for the beaches with long stretches of wide-open sand, rock pools and dunes. If you’re bringing a surfboard with you, there’s even some decent surf here – if your dog doesn’t mind watching you wrestle the water. There’s also, of course, Woolacombe itself, with several places to grab food or coffee with your dog, including The Jube, a dog-friendly pub, or Meraki Coffee
If you’re still in search of some beaches, the closest is Combe Martin Beach (with some seasonal dog restrictions to check), or you're a half-hour drive to Saunton Sands – a fantastic beach for dogs, as it’s massive with plenty of dunes to scarper up and down, and best of all, it’s dog friendly all year round
Other than the wealth of coastline to choose from, there’s still some incredible stuff to see inland. If you take a half-hour drive northeast, you will find the amazing National Trust property, Watersmeet. Originally built as a fishing and hunting lodge in 1832, it sits where two rivers… well, meet. There are 2000 acres of estate to explore in ancient oak woodlands, and a tea garden serving light lunches. It’s incredibly beautiful and dog friendly!
It’s less than 20 minutes to Exmoor from this spot, and that means you have an incredible wealth of moor, woodland, river and hill walks all to explore with your four-legged friend. It’s also adjacent to Dunkery & Horner Wood National Nature Reserve. Be sure to pop out here to tucker out the hound, but be warned – this is an excellent place for a mud bath!

Booking guide
Every booking at Paws & Stay is about the dog. You will see how many dogs are allowed at a place on their page and in search results and then you can add them during the booking process. While your dogs are more than welcome, of course, our owners hope you’ll still make sure your dogs are well behaved. There may occasionally be rooms (and furniture) that are off limits to dogs, but not to an extent that will impact your stay. If they can’t be in the room with you, they’ll have a lovely, cosy spot of their own. You can see any restrictions in the 'For the Dog' section of a place.
How to book
All you need to do is select an available check-in date, underlined in gold on the calendar, and see what options appear for your stay. If the stay is within ten weeks of the date on which you’re booking, you’ll need to pay the full cost of the stay. If it’s further than ten weeks away, you’ll have the option of paying a 25% deposit.
When you book, you’ll be able to use the email address you supply to log in and make any further payments whenever you like. We will notify you when your balance is due and be in touch if it goes unpaid past that date.
If you have any questions about a place, you can email us on bookings@pawsandstay.co.uk. Call us during office hours (Monday to Friday, except Bank Holidays, 0900 to 1800) if you have any problems with booking and we can usually sort things out over the phone.
Paying your balance
If you paid a deposit when you booked, we’ll let you know when your balance is due, but you can log in to your account, which is automatically created when you book, to pay it at any time. You can also log in and pay off a little of your balance at a time.
Deposits and balance payments
If your booking is made more than ten weeks in advance of your arrival date, you’ll have the option to pay a 25% deposit. The full balance will then be taken from the same card you pay with. You’ll be able to pay the balance on a different card at any time by giving us a call. If your balance payment fails, don’t worry. Your booking will not be cancelled but we will need to get in touch with you within a week to secure the balance payment.
Terms & conditions
We’ll always try and find a solution that works for you and our owners if there’s any issue with your booking, but you can read our full [Ts&Cs](https://www.pawsandstay.co.uk/terms-and-conditions/) here.
