Why we love it
30 seconds to the dog-friendly beach, and 30 seconds to the high street, you don’t have to go far to enjoy yourself. Walks, food, rest
"The only downside was having to leave!"
Our week at The Cook's Cottage was an absolute delight! The location is fantastic, just a short hop to the beach, shops & restaurants. We loved evenings by the fire, the nostalgic antique record player, the beautifully equipped kitchen that made cooking a joy. The only downside was having to leave! Five stars without hesitation.

The place
The Cook’s Cottage is a real-life version of your coastal getaway dream. Some places you measure the nearest shops and points of interest in minutes, in this case – seconds. With the sea a 30 second walk away, and the shops 30 seconds the other way, you can get a lot done and still be home in time for dinner. You’ve the space to entertain, whether you’re here as a couple, or meeting family and friends in the area; with a large French vintage dining table in the garden, for extended lazy lunches, with a chiminea fire for when afternoon melts into night – and even a two-person hammock to stargaze before the fire dies out. With over 15 restaurants in walking distance – many of them are dog-friendly, and many more a short cab ride away, the only problem you’ll have with food is choosing where to go.
In the neighbourhood
- Take the dogs out for a sprint on West Beach, Whitstable Beach Front and Tankerton Beach –dogs need to be kept on a lead in the central beach area during the peak season - too many people having BBQs
- Blean Woods, 11-minute drive. Explore the five trails in this woodland, the longest trail stretches eight miles, through oak trees. You could spot a lesser-spotted woodpecker and nightingale if you're lucky
- Duncan Down, 8-minute drive. 23 acres of woodland, scrubland, grassland and even a stream, dog friendly and worth a visit.
- The Cheese Box, 15-second walk. A fromagerie and occasional host to a cheese and wine night that are heartily recommended. With a selection of cheeses from all over the country, choose and try from their impressive selection.
