The place

This is the perfect spot for families and couples alike, with its spacious interior, and room for six. Take a few days to yourselves, enjoying your sea views, and taking trips to the beach, and coastal walks, with your very own space to overlook the Celtic sea to come back to. After exploring all the Lizard Peninsula has to offer, or the nearby cities of Falmouth and Penzance, you can retire for the day, and select the bounty of fresh food and seasonal produce on offer from the local market towns – and grill up treats on the BBQ. You’ve two private gardens to yourself, an incredible double-ended bath and wetroom for pampering that salty hair, and at day's end the choice of settling into the sofa by the log fire, or taking a seat around the firepit to watch the night’s sky. Halzephron Cottage is one of the best places to explore this stretch of the coast.

In the neighbourhood

  • The South West Coastal Path (SWCP) actually runs across the estate here. If you know, you know, and if you don’t – SWCP is a walking route that runs 630 mikes around the entire circumference of Cornwall, and a large part of Devon, essentially encircling the entire southwestern peninsula on the UK. Head north, head south, it doesn’t matter. There’s the entire coastline to explore with your hound.
  • Those with a keen eye might notice, you’re on the coast here, and there happen to be a lot of beaches nearby. Your closest sandy stretch is Gunwalloe beach, and is dog friendly all year round, but there are strong currents – so dogs aren’t encouraged to swim. Nearby, there’s Gunwalloe Church Cove Beach, 1.2 miles away, and Dollar Cove round the corner at one mile away. Both are much better spots for swimming. Dollar Cove has no dog restrictions, and Church Cove allows dogs with the exception of July and August when a seasonal dog ban is in place between 1000 and 1800.
  • There’s a few towns and cities to explore nearby. Take a drive out to Cadgwith a picture postcard village and harbour, with its own small inshore fleet. Buy freshy fish, or crab and bring it back to the cottage to cook up on the BBQ (if it survives the car ride with the dog). There’s also a few dog-friendly pubs to make use of for a pit stop. You could also head a little further to Falmouth, which is a half hour drive, with the reward of all the dog-friendly restaurants like Stable Pizza, or Harbour view or the dog-friendly pubs like The Boathouse, or Five Degrees West
  • Closer to home, you have The Halzephron Inn, dog-friendly pub, serving a menu of specials that changes twice a day, from local seasonal produce. Award winning, and even better, a five-minute walk down the road. If you’re in the mood for something soft, pop south to Poldhu Beach Cafe & Shop, for organic coffee and light bites – alongside your faithful friend
  • Care to see something unusual? The largest and best preserved of its kind, Halliggye Fogou is a series of complex underground passages associated with Cornish Iron Age settlements. It’s just a 15 minute drive away, and dogs on leads are welcome. Archaeologists are unsure of its purpose, so see if you and your four-legged friend can sniff out its function.
