Why we love it

Fold back the entire wall and make the hot tub, the deck, the outdoor bean bags and the massive Herefordshire views part of your lounge.

What you'll love

Dogs will love

  • Sniffing out their beds, bowls and treats
  • Pulling you along the fenced woodland tracks
  • Trotting about off lead on the estate (as long as they’re not escape artists)

Humans will love

  • Reading in the suspended chair
  • Toasting one another in the electric hot tub
  • Barbequing a feast on the terrace

The place

The Meadow is as well-equipped as it is well designed. You could spend all your time at the cabin easily, curling up on the sofas in the lounge with your faithful four-legged friend at your feet, or out with a book in hand in the suspended chair. You’re faced with The Black Mountains, so whether you’re looking over the top of a book or the top of a glass of something bubbly, your backdrop’s incredible. Take your dog on a tour of the fenced woodland in search of new and exciting smells, and at days end, reap your reward with a couple of bubbly hours in the electric hot tub. There’s so much to do nearby, and if you manage to escape the pull of barbequing all the local delights you find at nearby farm shops, there’s adventure to be had in every direction.

You should know

  • The bunks are suitable for adults
  • Whilst you dogs may roam free, as long as they’re well behaved, the gardens, and site, are not enclosed – so be sure when you let them off that they’re not an escape artist or livestock chasers
  • There is livestock onsite right in front of the cabins in secured fields. If your dog is a chaser, do keep them on leads
  • The woodland does have boundary fencing but the entrance is not secured with a gate
  • There is another identical cabin next door, but the curved fencing keeps it feeling private
  • Please do not leave dogs unattended at the property unless they are crated

In the neighbourhood

  • The Cat’s Back is just 12 miles away from here, and very much worth the quick drive out to explore it. There’s a circular walk that stretches almost five miles, running the length of the stop of the hill, and back down around the eastern side. It’s pretty exposed up there, so don’t forget warm clothes!
  • A little further away, Sugar Loaf Mountain is worth the extra mileage for the sweeping panoramic views over South Wales. The ascent takes only two and half hours, and is regarded as a moderately challenging route. At its base, there’s plenty of woodland to explore with your hound and Abergavenny is just three miles away, for all the dog-friendly pubs it holds for pit stops
  • Just a little further than Cat’s back, there’s Waun Fach, England’s third highest mountain. Imposing though it sounds, at 811m high, the route is reasonably moderate, with a few steep inclines, and should take between three and five hours to complete. If you’ve got the type of dog that needs tiring out, this might be the option for you
  • It’s only half an hour or so to the Wye Valley AONB, and if there’s one thing they do well, it’s adventures on the river. There are around 16 different companies to rent either canoes, kayaks or SUPs (stand up paddleboards) from in the Wye Valley area. With the River Wye winding all the way down from North Wales, and curling around the edge of Hereford, you can row, paddle, drift or generally sail up or down the Wye to your heart’s content. Best of all, a surprising number of companies are more than happy to let your dog join in – just as long as they’re a salty dog
  • If you’re in the mood for a wild hike over slightly less incline, there’s AONBs in every direction. You can drive north to the Shropshire Hills AONB, east to the Malvern Hills, or south to the Wye Valley, and west to the Brecon Beacons. No matter which way you go there’s endless hikes and walks for you and your dog to enjoy
  • Trading for over 700 years, Hay Market Day (Thursday mornings from 0900) is a vibrant local market held in the centre of Hay-on-Wye. Over 40 stalls offer a diverse range of items, from food to woolly socks. Even when the market’s not on, Hay-on-Wye is well worth the visit.
