The place

Backed by woodland, when you take a deep breath in the morning with your coffee, you’ll smell pine forest, and look out on sprawling views of Lake of Menteith. Not a bad way to start the day at all. Though Scotland's weather might be a little unpredictable, you won’t find yourself caring at all. Sunny days might look like exploring the locale, heading to a forest with a happily bounding hound, taking as many lakeside or lochside strolls as you can manage, or even going further afield to market towns and the big cities that are an hour or so away. But even in the rain, you’ll love spending time here. Listen to the drumming on the roof windows, whilst a crackling wood burner keeps you toasty as you read or take to the well-equipped kitchen to whip up a feast. Whatever the weather, you’re in the right spot to relax.

You should know

Please don’t leave your dog alone at the lodge. Although there are plenty of dog-friendly days out they can join you on!
There are a few cattle grids on the property, so make sure unfamiliar dogs don’t wander over them
If you’re lucky, you might meet the owner’s golden retriever called Bertie
This space is directly next to the owner’s property, and to The Stable, but with 40 acres to explore, there’s plenty of room for everyone
There's a duck pond on the estate, it's not right by the cottage, but be aware if your dog's a chaser!

As this place is within the Trossachs National Park, you’ll never be short of walks to take! Just up the road, there’s the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, which is 19,665 hectares to explore with your hound! Though you can’t bring your dog into the café, there are bowls for water and tie-up points outside the visitor’s centre. Nearby, there’s also the Go Ape centre, where you’re welcome to bring your dog – as long as they’re well-behaved and don’t mind seeing you dangle off the high ropes!
The Queen Elizabeth Forest Park is just outside Aberfoyle, so if you head out there to explore, there are a few options for pit stops and rewarding post-hike dinners. You could head to The Forth Inn – two-time winner of The Dog-Friendly Pub of the year. Or try out The Faerie Tree Inn for its seasonal British and international fare (just as long as your dog doesn’t chase Faeries)
If you’ve got a salty dog, then you might want to get them out in the ear-flapping winds of Loch Katrine for a cruise! The local cruise company takes dogs of all sizes (though be sure to call ahead to check), and you can enjoy a little boat ride, finishing off with a trip to The Pier Café, which sits on its banks. Grab breakfast, lunch, early evening meals, simply coffee – or even the pizza that’s served all day. They say mucky paws and boots are welcome, and you might even meet their resident springer, Lexi, just be sure to check the opening times
Its full name is the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park, so if you’re not headed over to Loch Lomond, you’re missing out. There’s walking, of course, cycling (if your dog doesn’t mind a workout), and even watersports! There’s even an island called Inchcailloch worth exploring. Take part in any of these, and you’ll surely deserve a hearty meal. It’s worth checking out The Clachan Inn, the oldest licensed pub in Scotland, The Perch which serves lunches and brunches on the waterfront or even the St Mocha Coffee Shop & Ice Cream Parlour in Balmaha, which serve puppuccinos!
The hardiest of explorers might want to take on Ben Lomond, which is only 40 minutes away. It’s Scotland’s most southernly Munro, and whilst it’s quite popular with day-trippers from nearby Glasgow, or Edinburgh, you’ll find plenty of room up there for a wander. Just be sure to pack the tough boots for the 3000ft climb
If you’re not just here to enjoy the peace and seclusion (which you'll be finding in bucketloads), but also to experience Scotland as it comes, then you can take the hour or so drive to Glasgow or Edinburgh. Both cities having ancient architecture and deep history, as well as being living, breathing cities, constantly changing and reforming as culture changes. So even if you’ve been before, you’re almost guaranteed to see plenty of new sights on each visit
