The place
Just outside the Lake District National Park, The Nook is tucked away in the tiny village of Tallentire, with the sea just four or so miles away to the west. Walks are everywhere you turn here, with plenty from the doorstep, and even more on the coast, as well as the lakes and wildlife parks nearby. It’s perfect for an active dog in need of burning off some energy in the day. If you have more of a lazybones, however, you’re still in luck. The Nook is an amazing spot to stop and settle down for a few days of calm. Inside your space, the bones of the traditional cottage shine through, with gorgeous, exposed beams and brick – framing a calm space to wind down with the dog. You’ve a modern kitchen to cook up treats, as well as a lounge complete with open fire to sit and admire the crackle. But outside, there’s an al fresco table for dining, and a chiminea just feet away to enjoy sundown.
In the neighbourhood
- Walk from the door: Turn left out of Low Fold and follow the road round to the left, turn left onto the grassy footpath just before you get to the first cul-de-sac on your left. Go past the two wooded areas, and go over the stile on the left. This will take you on a loop round the back of the village fields and back up through the farm. Keep going and return to Low Fold on your left
- Allonby Beach, 15-minute drive: Just six miles down the road, Allonby Beach is perfect for dogs – with no restrictions, and a sand and shingle mix, dogs can sprint all five miles of it for a morning or afternoon of fun
- Lake District National Park, 6-minute drive: The edge of the national park is just a short drive away, and within 45 minutes you could be at the foot of Scafell Pike! The park is perfect for active dogs, with plenty of spots to explore (or be dragged by an excited hound)
- Bassenthwaite Lake, 15-minute drive: So, it may be inside the national park again, but you can’t afford to miss the host of dog-friendly walks around the water. With plenty of routes and spots to stop for a bite or a coffee, it’s perfect for hounds
