The place

This stylish barn conversion is the perfect spot to get away from it all. Sat on the south coast, you’ve got adventures to be found all along the coastline, or deeper into the heart of the country. Day trips could take you to Portsmouth for a day out of dog-friendly activities, or even further, to the Isle of Wight for the day to explore the National landscape with an eager dog pulling the whole way! Back at your place, you’ve got plenty of walks straight from the front door, and an outdoor hose to take care of those muddy paws afterwards. If the weather’s not playing ball, you can kick back on the sofa by a crackling wood burner, or in the covered hot tub, as your dog patrols the enclosed garden.

You should know

  • Lead up in the parking area, as there is a traditional wooden gate with large gaps
  • The garden is enclosed by shrubbery (2+ metres deep) on one side, which a determined escape artist could squeeze through
  • The main window in the living area looks out on to the site's shared car park and so could cause a disturbance for reactive dogs

In the neighbourhood

  • Walk from the door: Turn left around the gatehouse and go over the stile into a field. Lead up for the first field, as there may be horses. But the next several fields along the National Trust path are good for off-lead walks.
  • The Robin Hood, 22-minute walk. An award-winning gastropub, everything here is locally sourced. Take a quick wander around the village, and finish off with a bite to eat and seat next to a roaring fire. Dogs welcome!
  • The River Hamble Country Park, 17-minute drive. A scenic spot for afternoon walks. You'll need to lead up in certain spots, but not everywhere. There’s even a dog wash station.
  • Portsmouth, 30-minute drive. At such a short drive to Portsmouth, it’s well worth popping over to have a day out exploring all the dog-friendly venues, whether it’s just a quick pit stop in a coffee shop, or a lunch at a pub.
