The place

This is definitely a place to come and live in the slow lane for a few days. There’s not much but woods and field for miles and you’ll be tempted to stock up, settle in and ditch the car for the whole time you’re here. With the hot tub and pizza oven to make use of, you won’t regret it if you do. You can walk the dog along the lane or round the fields, then settle him down on the deck and have a big family nap. On the other hand, there’s a lot in Aberdeenshire worth seeing and doing, from the downhill bike trails on the Glenlivet Estate to the hike up Bennachie or walks on the lovely beaches of Cullen, Sunnyside and more. Throw in a visit to one of the many local distilleries or a locally sourced meal at a fine country pub and you’ve got the perfect few days of indulgence and relaxation.

In the neighbourhood

  • The Whisky Trail (Glenfiddich), 40-minute drive: Not so much an official tour as an acknowledgement of the fact that there are enough distilleries in the area that you can hop from distillery to distillery
  • The Bin Forest, 15-minute drive: The Bin Forest offers a series of short, scenic walking trails named after its highest point, The Bin Hill. Along the trails, you’ll find majestic grand fir trees – some nearly 200 years old – grown from seeds collected by renowned Scottish botanist David Douglas.
  • The Bank Café and Restaurant, 13-minute drive: Dogs allowed on the ground floor seating please use discretion with others around eating – serving locally served food with accompanying local whiskys.
  • Cullen Beach, 36-minute drive: Head on over to this sandy stretch for an ear-flapping sprint on the coast. Head further inland and take in the aqueduct on a grassy stroll.
