Why we love it
Take some me time with your dog in this luxurious stay near the Anglo-Welsh border, either relaxing onsite, or exploring all Herefordshire has to offer
What you'll love
Dogs will love
- Finding a bed, bowls and treats left for them
- Being off lead on the estate (as long as they’re not escape artists)
- Going for walks in the fenced woodland
Humans will love
- Starfish-ing on the bean bags
- Melting into the electric hot tubs
- Dinner on the terrace
The place
Downtime is the name of the game at Top Orchard, and you’ll find all you need to do it waiting for you. It’ll be hard to make use of all that’s nearby, the Brecon Beacons just a short drive, Hay-on-Wye and Hereford round the corner, when you’re faced with bean bags, and a hot tub in your garden every morning. Take your dog for a tour of the woodland, and try as hard as you can to ignore the puppy eyes by the BBQ, or when you’re making use of the well-equipped kitchen. If you do go exploring, you’ve got a night under the stars on the terrace in a suspended chair waiting back at the cabin – with a glass of something to finish the day. Wake up the next day to the birdsong, and the fresh Welsh air flowing down from the mountains and through the open bi-fold doors.
In the neighbourhood
- Favourite Walk Nearby: The Cat’s Back, a 20-minute drive, is a circular walk that stretches almost five miles, running the length of the stop of the hill, and back down around the eastern side. It’s pretty exposed up there, so don’t forget warm clothes!
- The Wye Valley AONB, 30-minute drive: Offers the perfect setting for river adventures. With around 16 local companies renting canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards, there are plenty of ways to explore the winding River Wye – from North Wales down past the edge of Hereford. Whether you’re paddling, drifting, or cruising, it's a beautiful way to spend the day. Some companies even welcome dogs on board!
- The Gwatkin Red Cow, 40-minute walk: Welcomes dogs in their rustic restaurant. Enjoy a scenic stroll directly from the site via a footpath, and treat yourself to breakfast, lunch, light bites, evening meals or their fantastic Sunday roast.
- Under the Nut Tree, 21-minute drive: Offers a unique supper club-style experience. On Friday and Saturday nights, enjoy a seasonal three-course set menu, showcasing the best local produce cooked over an outdoor fire kitchen. Dogs very welcome.
