- Finishing off the day by the wood burner
The place
This charming little cottage is perfectly placed within The Norfolk Coast National Landscape to enjoy the very best of Norfolk. There are the rolling green fields all around you, which you can explore with the dog just by wandering out the cottage doors and taking off down public footpaths with a happy hound. Or of course, trips to the nearby beaches and the coast for walks, with Holkham beach just a short drive for six kilometres of sandy, off-lead strolls, and the attached dunes, nature reserves or even the Holkham Hall estate (where leads might be needed in a few spots). When at home, you and the dog can enjoy a little R&R, spending sunny afternoons together in the garden, with either a cup of tea to enjoy or something stronger – whilst the hound rolls on the grass. Once evening settles in, it’ll be time to retire in front of a roaring fire, with the dog at your feet and a deep contented sigh.
In the neighbourhood
- Walk from the door: Leads may be needed in fields with livestock but start at Burnham Thorpe church and follow the public footpath signs through open fields and hedgerows. Continue west towards Burnham Overy Staithe, where you can extend the walk by exploring the marshes
- Holkham Beach, 15-minute drive: Dogs are very welcome on the beach for a lot of the year, just be cautious of timings, as during nesting season, dogs must be on leads to protect the birds!
- The Nelson Country House, 30-minutes’ walk: Take the walk over to The Nelson Country House for contemporary dining crafted from locally sourced, seasonal produce (and drinks) – bring your four-legged friend for good dinner company!
- Wells Beach Café, 13-minute drive: Serving everything from hot chocolate to pizza, this beach café is the perfect spot to grab a bite to eat or a pit stop coffee before exploring the beach, or the Norfolk Coast National Landscape.
