The place
Feel like a main character at Yr Ydlan, kicking back inside the whitewashed walls of a cottage, just 20 minutes’ walk from the sea. When you’re not on ear-flapping walks along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, or zooming in the enclosed dog paddock, you might be reading a novel in the bath, or popping into the walk-in shower after a fresh dip in the sea. If coffee and culture is on the menu, there are plenty of market towns and little villages about, but Cardigan is just round the corner at a 20-minute drive. Head down to explore the town, and even the castle – with the dog, stopping for a long lunch or just a pit stop at the superb Crwst Café. There’s no need to do much of anything if you’re not in the mood, so just kick back on the terrace, find something chilled to drink in the sunshine, with a sleepy dog at your feet, and let the afternoon slip away.
In the neighbourhood
- Walk from the door: take the bridlepath with stunning sea views of Strumble Head Lighthouse. Follow the Pembrokeshire Coast Path to see the beautiful geological feature, The Witches Cauldron, and back home through ancient woodland, stopping for a quick paddle in the meandering stream.
- Ceibwr Bay, 20-minute walk. Wander through fields and woodland (no roads) to a beach that’s dog friendly all year round, and has access to the Pembrokeshire Coast path!
- Penrallt Garden Centre, 20-minute walk. Take the short walk down to Penrallt Garden Centre for traditional breakfasts, coffee and cake, as well as lunches. Four-legged visitors welcome!
- Crwst Café, 17-minute drive. This dog-friendly café has the best coffee, ice cream, doughnuts and Portuguese tarts. Visit before or after a walk on Poppit Sands, a dog friendly-beach with views of Cardigan Island and sand dunes for a game of hide and seek.
