Our Pet Policy
At Paws & Stay we believe in creating a welcoming and safe environment for both our human and canine guests. Our goal is to offer high-quality accommodation while ensuring the comfort, safety, and enjoyment of all dogs, guests, and hosts.
To achieve this, we have some general guidelines that we ask all dog owners to follow.
Dog Eligibility
Size and Breed: We strive to welcome dogs of all sizes and breeds at our Paws & Stay places however, some places will be more suitable for some dogs than others. Sometimes there isn’t enough space for a Great Dane (even though they think they’re lap dogs), or there might be gaps in the fence (so a curious Spaniel will be tempted to scurry under). We aim to provide you all the right information so you can make the right decision for you and your dog. If you feel that your dog has any special requirements, please contact our Guest Experience Team at bookings@pawsandstay.co.uk who will be happy to help.
XL Bullies and Band Breeds: If you’re looking to stay with your XL Bully or other band breed of dog, please get in touch with our Guest Experience team before confirming your booking at bookings@pawsandstay.co.uk. Some of our places will be better suited then others, and some cannot accept them, so we’ll be on hand to help. You may be asked to provide their certificate of exemption, proof of microchipping and their third-party public liability insurance certificate. You will also be required to adhere to the guidelines around muzzling and keeping your dog on a lead when required.
Health Requirements: All dogs must be up to date on required vaccinations, flea and tick treatments, and general health checks to ensure their safety, and the safety of any other animals or humans they may encounter.
Dog Behaviour and Training
Dog Supervision: Every dog is different and responds to different stimuli in different ways. We ask that while staying at any of our properties your dog(s) are always supervised and not left at the property alone.
Reactive dogs: If your dog is reactive or has special requirements, please get in touch with the Guest Experience Team at bookings@pawsandstay.co.uk and they’ll be able to provide suggestions to help you make your decision on where to stay.
Leads: Different places will have different lead requirements so make sure you view the listing for instructions on where your dog needs to be on lead to keep your dog safe.
Interaction with other humans and animals: Please be aware that you and your dog(s) may encounter other humans or animals while on your stay. Please always be mindful and aware of your dog’s behaviour and always keep them under control to ensure everyone's safety and enjoyment.
Treating your stay like your home away from home
Picking up your dog's mess: Please kindly keep on top of clearing your dog(s) mess and ensure both inside and outside the property is cleared before your departure. We appreciate your cooperation in helping our owners maintain a clean and welcoming environment for all guests, both dogs and humans. Most of our owners will have designated dog poo bins and will outline the safe disposal processes in their welcome books. If you are ever unsure, please reach out to the owner directly during your stay!
Damage: Sometimes damage can happen during a holiday and that’s ok! If, however, you do notice any damage to the property caused by either you or your dog, please let the owner know as soon as possible. Your contract of booking is between you and the owner so if the damage caused is over what would be considered as general wear and tear there may be a payable amount made directly to the owner to cover the costs of repairs or replacements. If something is noticed by the owners after your departure, they may send you an itemised bill and how to make payment.
Damage deposits: Some owners do require a damage deposit paid directly to them after your booking is placed. If your chosen place does take a damage deposit, any damage will be subtracted from said deposit amount. Please make sure you view the individual listings to see if a damage deposit applies to you as all our owners are different.
Dog Health and Safety
Emergencies: Need a vet? Our owners would be more than happy to give you information on veterinarians in the area. If your dog has specific preferences or requirements, we do recommend you do your due diligence and find a veterinarian that can cater to your dog’s specific needs before your stay.
First Aid Kit: We recommend that you bring a basic first aid kit suitable for your dog(s). This can include items such as bandages, antiseptic, tick removers and any other necessary medications you feel appropriate.
Pet Identification: To keep your dog(s) safe, we ask that they always wear proper identification while on a stay with us which includes a collar with an ID tag and are microchipped.
Transparent Communication
Clear Expectations: Please ensure you check out our listing pages for all the information you need to know about each space. At Paws & Stay we aim to iron out our intel to ensure that you can make the best decision for you and your dog! If you are ever in doubt, or have specific questions to you or your dog, please contact our Guest Experience Team at bookings@pawsandstay.co.uk
Communication with Hosts: We encourage you to communicate openly with your hosts before and during your stay, especially if there are any issues or specific needs regarding your dog or your stay in general as our owners always want to ensure you have the best experience possible.
Dog Care and Consideration
Mental and Emotional Wellbeing: We encourage owners to consider their dog’s comfort and emotional needs during their stay. The place will be an unfamiliar environment for them with lots of new smells, so if your dog seems stressed or uncomfortable, we suggest offering a quiet space for them to rest or taking advantage of the dog friendly outdoor spaces to let them release some energy to ensure their maximum comfort.
What to Pack: We know every dog is different so things may vary for you, but we have created a list of ideas with a few things we know our dogs love when travelling, to ensure they have the best time on holiday!
- Extra poo bags, dog blankets or dog towels (but some owners will provide them so check the listings!)
- Your dog’s favourite treats, food and a portable water bottle for adventures
- A pet carrier for shopping experiences or if you are travelling via public transport
- Your dog’s favourite toy, and something that smells like home to keep them as comfortable as possible like a travel dog bed
- A long lead if your dog is an escape artist
- Your dog’s preferred first aid, like paw balm and dog safe antibacterial ointments and wipes
