Why we love it
With so much just an easy drive away, there’s adventures in every direction, and a wood-fired hot tub waiting for you back at your place
"A beautiful cabin that met all our needs"
Cedar Lodge was a beautiful little cabin that met all of our needs as well as my dog's needs. We had an enclosed garden where she could sniff around to her hearts content and I knew she was safe. We will definitely be looking to go back again at some point!

The place
You’ll be looking out over the patchwork fields at Cedar Lodge, probably with the French doors wide open to let in the breeze. This cabin is the perfect spot to relax for a few days and take in the countryside with the hound. Though you’re just a ten-minute drive or so from Ilminster, you’re surrounded by green, and a short drive from the north and south coast or the many national parks and landscapes nearby. You’ve got a modern kitchen for cooking up dinners to make the dog jealous, and an al fresco table for them to look underfed by. Days out are rich with adventures, and even if you don’t go anywhere, you can wander over to the lake for a stroll. When you’re not taking the dog on ear-flapping strolls, or once they’ve burned off some energy, you can head back to your place to sit by the firepit, or simmer away in the wood-fired hot tub.
In the neighbourhood
- Walk from the door: Exit our field via the gate near the lake and turn right directly onto the chard to Ilminster footpath. Follow the footpath until you get to the Donyatt Halt and turn right and head up Herne Hill. Do a loop of the nature reserve and pop in at The George at Donaytt pub on your way home for a well-deserved drink! Around 10km in total
- Monmouth Beach, 40-minute drive: Head down to the beach-hut-lined shore of Monmouth for an afternoon of strolling the shingle and sniffing the fresh sea air
- The Bell at Broadway, 7-minute drive: With its roots going as far back as 1640, they must know a thing or two about a bite to eat and a pint. But believe it or not, pizza’s now their specialty item, serving straight from a wood fired oven
- The Blackdown Hills National Landscape, 10-minute drive: Head here for woods, moor, meadows, commons and castles to explore with the dog!
