The place
Chaffinch Cottage sits in the Northumberland National Park, overlooking miles of hillside and patches of pine woodland. This part of the world is incredibly scenic and there are miles and miles of walks for sniff-searching, stick-chasing days out. The cottage's rustic appearance on the outside is deceiving -- the interior is wonderfully modern, with a spacious kitchen, a living room centred around a cosy wood burner, and a private enclosed rear garden to the rear, for endless zoomies and a morning cuppa. When night falls, make the most of this Dark Sky Area with one of the stargazing kits and test your constellation-spotting skills, with your four-legged friend at your feet. If your shoulders need some loosening, treat yourself to time at the ‘Holistic Healing Cabin’, receiving treatments like aromatherapy massages, facials or reflexology!
In the neighbourhood
- Walk from the door: Head out of your front door, up the grass cut path above you and follow the path through the woodlands. Cross the gravel track and continue on again through woodland until you reach another gravel track, turn left and follow the loop back around into Kidlandlee.
- The Star Inn, 14-minute drive. A warm and welcoming pub to bring your dog. The Italian chef has created a wonderful seasonal menu including wood-fired pizzas. It’s five miles away, so you can walk the 1hr 30 min there if you need to work up an appetite.
- The Rose & Thistle, 12-minute drive. Pub owners, Mary and Neil, have a superb menu and a warm welcome that is much loved by locals. This dog-friendly pub is in Harbottle, a lovely valley to explore for the day.
- Alnmouth Beach, 50-minute drive. The start of amazing castle walks, the beach itself is stunning and the local’s favourite. The village has amazing coffee shops and dog-friendly pubs. Visit the School House Gallery for famous local artwork and cultural events.
