Why we love it
With the Lake District National Park right on your doorstep, spend a few days adventuring with the dog, or resting up on the sofa together by a crackling fire
What you'll love
Dogs will love
- Heading to the beach for a sprint!
- Joining you on the sofa for a cuddle (on a blanket)
- Looking underfed at the al fresco table
Humans will love
- Sitting by the chiminea as the sun sets
- Eating al fresco under stars or sunshine
- Spending the afternoon in the freestanding bath
The place
Just a couple of miles from the edge of the Lake District National Park, Low Fold is tucked away in the tiny village of Tallentire, with the sea just a few miles the other way. No matter which direction you head in, there are walks all around – from the door, or just a short drive to epic peaks. If you wake up with a dog raring to go, you can be at Scafell Pike in 45 minutes, or making the rounds at Bassenthwaite Lake – stopping at teashops to refuel. But if you or the hound are feeling more like a quiet few days in, you’ve plenty to enjoy at home. Spend a morning quietly reading by the crackling wood burner, or out at the al fresco table in the sun. An afternoon in the freestanding bath is a treat that shouldn’t be missed either! With a spacious modern kitchen, you can cook up whatever you’ve brought, but given that the Lake District has the most Michelin stars per capita outside London – eating out is a must.
In the neighbourhood
- Walk from the door: Turn left out of Low Fold and follow the road round to the left, turn left onto the grassy footpath just before you get to the first cul-de-sac on your left. Go past the two wooded areas, and go over the stile on the left. This will take you on a loop round the back of the village fields and back up through the farm. Keep going and return to Low Fold on your left
- Allonby Beach, 15-minute drive: Just six miles down the road, Allonby Beach is perfect for dogs – with no restrictions, and a sand and shingle mix, dogs can sprint all five miles of it for a morning or afternoon of fun
- Lake District National Park, 6-minute drive: The edge of the national park is just a short drive away, and within 45 minutes you could be at the foot of Scafell Pike! The park is perfect for active dogs, with plenty of spots to explore (or be dragged by an excited hound)
- Bassenthwaite Lake, 15-minute drive: So, it may be inside the national park again, but you can’t afford to miss the host of dog-friendly walks around the water. With plenty of routes, spots to stop for a bite or a coffee, it’s perfect for hounds
