The place
With the endless patchwork fields of Wiltshire all around, Whistley Fields Barn is the perfect spot for you and the dog to spend some much-needed down time. Found just a short drive from Devizes, this part of the country is jam-packed with country pubs and market towns to explore with your four-legged friend. Your place has a kitchen/lounge to cook up the bounty you grab from the local farm shops dotted around, and serve either al fresco (with a jealous dog’s head in your lap) or inside, with a view out of the French doors. If you’d prefer to be cooked for, you’re also in luck, with a number of dog-friendly pubs in easy reach. After a day of long walks with the dog, or a casual afternoon watching them frolic in the garden, take it easy with a luxurious soak in the freestanding bath and a nap by the fire, with a hound in your lap!
In the neighbourhood
- Walk from the door: Walk out the farm gate and turn left down the byway. After about 0.7 of a mile, turn right along Hay Lane. Continue on the concrete bridge. At the end of the track (left to Poulshot and the pub), turn right and cross the wooden bridge. Follow the path along the hedge. You’ll return to the field opposite the farm entrance
- The Raven, 5-minute drive: Take the incredibly short drive round the corner for traditional pub grub, cask ales and either a pub garden to bask in, or a crackling wood burner – weather depending!
- Devizes, 8-minute drive: With Devizes just down the road, there are plenty of options for a lazy day out. Wander the historic streets, or take a stroll through Drews Pond Wood Nature reserve, and back to the centre for a dog-friendly pub!
- Wild Herb at The Field Kitchen, 21-minute drive: With deli-style lunches, specials and coffee and cakes in a stunning setting, spend an afternoon overlooking the fields and lakes with the dog by the wood burner.
