The place
Not far from where the Cleddau Ddu makes its way to the sea, The Coach house at Sleekstone is on the edge of Honeyborough in Pembrokeshire. Perfect for families, or a couple of couples, there’s room for six (and five dogs) to spend a few days relaxing. There are walks straight from the door here, and if that doesn’t tire out the hound, you can make your way up to The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park for some longer hikes or take the easy drive to one of the many beaches lining this part of the coast – and let the dog run free. Your place is spacious, with a dining room/kitchen to serve to the whole group, breakfast, lunch and dinner – if you’re not eating out, that is. There’s also plenty of room to stretch out in the lounge by the wood burner, and a bath upstairs for a lucky someone to while away the evening.
In the neighbourhood
- Walk from the door: Make a right at the front gate, continue along Wood Lane into Coram Drive; at the right-hand bend in the road, take the footpath down between the houses and turn left. Follow the path to the main road. Cross the road and take the path down the hill, at the bottom of the hill turn right towards the Marina for a coffee at Manillas or a drink upstairs at The Bar (dogs welcome outside at both venues).
- Ferry House Inn, 6-minute drive: Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as drinks - this is a great spot to head to no matter the time of day. Take a perch and enjoy the views of the harbour with a happy dog by your feet (as long as they’re on a lead and well behaved).
- Sandy Haven Beach, 25-minute drive: Dog-friendly all year round, Sandy Haven is a great spot to bring dogs for an afternoon on the sand. Gallop about and explore with the dog and be back in time for dinner.
- The Jolly Sailor, 8-minute drive: Right on the river, this a lovely place to head over to for a bite. With a mix of pub classics, and a healthy dose of seafood – there’s plenty to pick from. Dogs welcome in the lounge and bar area!
