Our favourite dog-friendly cottages in Cornwall with walks from the door

Try as you may, there are some activities that just can’t be shared with dogs. They’re not well suited to hot tubs – unsurprisingly, the filters just can’t take the fur. You share a chocolate bar and have a chat. But, it’s well known that both humans and dogs love a good walk. And even better, whilst all our places have somewhere you can get to for a good stroll, or hearty hike – a lot of them have walks ready to take on, straight from the front door.

Logi’s Boathouse

With far reaching views of the River Tamar, and an enviable spot right on the waterfront, Logi’s Boathouse is an ideal spot to grab some great walks from the door. Simply head down the private access steps to the shingle beach and you’re good to go!

Spend a few days padding around, enjoying the outdoor bath, lying out on the sun lounger, or cooking something up on the BBQ out on the deck. Evening is particularly lovely out there, with festoon lights to keep the outdoors feeling magical.

You’ll keep quite busy, with Plymouth the other side of the water, many beaches in easy reach, as well as plenty of local pubs and small market towns to explore nearby. There’s even the option to hop on the Cremyll Ferry, which lets you take in the views over the Plymouth Sound. But if it’s walks from the door you’re after, you’re in luck. There are plenty to take on, with Mount Edgecombe and the Rame Head Heritage Coast to your south, and plenty of waterside woodland walks to the north – you’ve plenty to pick from.

An outdoor bath at a dog-friendly holiday cottage

The Old Barn at Lower Tresithick

The dog is going to have to make some pretty heartbreaking puppy eyes at you, to get you to part with your free time at this dog-friendly cottage. With high ceilings lined with incredible period beams, The Old Barn feels incredibly spacious here, and spending time indoors is all too easy. Especially when all you have to do to enjoy the outdoors, is just step right the door to take a pew at the al fresco table, and enjoy a face-ful of sunshine (and perhaps a cheeky beverage).

You’ve your own enclosed garden here, so it’s pretty easy to let the dog snuffle about whilst you get ready for a day out, or just let them out for their business in the morning whilst you make a drink – but there’s only one thing easier. And that’s getting out for a walk. There are three public footpaths to take, straight from the front door, as well as 12 acres of on-site farmland to wander over – so if you’re looking to stretch the legs, you’ve found the spot.

The Cottage at Halzephron House

With an enclosed garden and sea views, The Cottage at Halzephron is an incredible spot for those looking to settle down for a few days by the beach. This dog-friendly cottage is perched right on the coast, so much so in fact, that the South West Coast Path is literally just outside the door.

Some might like to simply lie about enjoying the crashing waves from the snug, others relax by the wood burner in the lounge, and the rest, perhaps just a steaming cup of something and a stunning stare out the window.

But for those looking to stretch the legs, wander straight out onto The South West Coast Path, and head in either direction for a whole host of walks along windswept craggy coastline. Or wander out and head to the very nearby beaches and coves to explore, either Gunwalloe beach (dog friendly all year round, but no swimming due to strong currents) or Gunwalloe Church Cove Beach and Dollar Cove, also nearby, and much better for swimming.

Hollyhock Cottage

Sometimes there are walks you can take nearby, but it takes a little drive to get there. Sometimes, there are walks straight from the front door. And on very special occasions – there are walks right on the site!  Hollyhock Cottage is set into 150 acres of farmland at Treworgey, which you can explore all day long. As if that weren’t enough, it’s a half hour’s drive to Sibleyback Lake, which offers a great 3.5-mile circular walk, as well as kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding. And on top of that, it’s an easy 20-minute drive to Seaton Beach, 26 minutes to Lantic Bay to the west, or 25 minutes to the east you’ll find Whitsand Bay.

Walks are found in abundance here, so you won’t struggle to find some way to tucker yourself, or the dog out. Nor will you get tired of places to explore! But, if your feet need a moment to recover, you’ll find it nice and easy to relax when you’re back at the place. You’ve access to a shared pool, spa and sauna for the royal treatment, and just down the road – you’ve got The Plough at Duloe, where great local seafood is as common as bowls for the dog.

Round House East

It’s not every day you get to stay in a round house – and you could be forgiven for staying put, and simply enjoying the ambiance. The building is from the 1820s, which is obvious from the outside, with the stunning thatched roof. But indoors, the mood’s contemporary, with a bright and colourful interior – and all the modern conveniences. There’s even an enclosed garden for the dog to appreciate, and for you to lie back by the hydrangeas.

The best part? Round House East is within walking distance of the South West Coast Path, so you can hop onto the nearest stretch and enjoy miles of rambling around The Roseland Peninsula. If you’re more in the mood for sun, sea and sand (sun not guaranteed), then it’s around one mile by foot, and actually further by car. There is also Pendower and Carne beach in easy reach too. And worst comes to worst, there’s the dog-friendly New Inn just 150 yards away, if you’re looking for a micro-stroll to work up an appetite…
